CM vision – Needs Refreshing

Your Question:

“We have a children’s ministry vision statement; but, it is old and needs ‘refreshing.’ How do we do that?”

The Issues:

When you consider “refreshing” the current CM vision, remember that there might be “political ties” to the current version.  Do all you can to involve people from the CM and church leadership in the initial brainstorming meetings.  Identify the reasons for “refreshing” the CM vision, and listen to other views or opinions.  Ultimately, it is you who will decide on the final version of the vision statement; but, if you’ve invited comments or views from others, they will be more open to accepting the new version.  When you update the vision, you may also experience the “ripple effects” of this new version in CM programs, CM team development, curriculum etc. Communicate often and clearly about all of the “ripples” from the changes.

Scripture Foundation:

Without a vision the people perish.”  Proverbs 29:18; “In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your path straight.”  Proverbs 3: 6; “Go into all the world…”  Matthew 28: 19-20

Short Answer:

An “old” CM vision is comfortable; but, it may not necessarily be “current” with the community or culture around you.  “Refreshing” the vision, without changing the original “core” of the vision is possible.  When someone mentions the need for “refreshing” a CM vision, they are usually focused on how the vision is expressed, not necessarily on the purpose for the vision.  By adding, or changing single words within the original vision statement, you can easily “refresh” the vision without changing the original purpose.  For more help, click on the links below.
