Our CM budget is restricted

Your Question:

“I’ve been told that the CM can’t have a budget. Now, what do I do?”

The Issues:

God has placed the CM under the authority of the church leadership.  To fight against that is to dishonor God.  Sometimes, there must be a period of “earning the trust” of the church leadership through diligent, careful financial spending and record-keeping.  It might also be possible to help the church leadership understand the potential for the CM, and how the CM vision could be enhanced with a larger budget.  Be a good steward of what you have and communicate regularly about the CM vision and weekly success stories.

Scripture Foundation:

“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.”  1 Peter 4:10

Short Answer:

Sometimes we assume that the church leadership knows everything.  The fact that the leadership has hired (at whatever level) people to assist in overseeing various ministries proves the fact that the church has become larger than one or two people can supervise.  As a CM leader, you “see” and envision the potential for the CM more clearly than the church leadership is able to, simply because this is all you do.  Don’t assume that the church leadership understands all that you do about the CM.  It is okay to work on letting them “see” what you see.  This is an important foundation for building the CM budget.  If the church is indeed a very small church, and there isn’t any more funds to devote to the CM, then your biggest challenge is to be a good steward of what God has provided you.  Although, if you sense that there could be more money given to the CM, then do all you can to “display the fruit” of the CM on a regular basis.  Periodically, also share your dreams and vision for the CM.  It is not disrespectful for you to say something like, “There is so much more we could do for the children and families of this church, but those ideas would take more funds.”  You are helping those in church leadership to understand what you understand.
